Fi Shi Ghalat campaign

The Fi Shi Ghalat campaign highlights the current regulations related to sponsorship that permit the exploitation of the Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), and intends to gain public support for change.

 

Lebanese and non-Lebanese domestic workers are not covered by the labor code therefore they do not benefit from rights extended to other workers, such as maximum working hours or the national minimum wage. In addition the sponsorship system makes the employer legally responsible, and encourages the widespread denial of MDWs basic human rights.

 

The nine interviewees on the Fi Shi Ghalat campaign are not following prepared scripts, but are expressing the honest opinions of nine Lebanese citizens who are courageous enough to point out what is “ghalat” when we talk about MDWs situation. Fi Shi Ghalat insists that a more just system is possible. Join us in our struggle to guarantee the freedom of employers and MDWs.

 

Fi Shi Ghalat is a national campaign*, and the result of fruitful coordination between five Lebanese NGOs (Caritas Lebanon Migrant Center, KAFA (enough) Violence & Exploitation, Insan Association, Amel International, and Anti-Racism Movement.

لماذا ندعو الى التغيير؟

في الواقع يستثني قانون العمل اللبناني عاملات المنازل اللبنانيات والاجنبيات في مواده وبالتالي يحرمهن من الحقوق التي يتمتع بها سائر العمال الذين يشملهم هذا القانون مثل الحق في تحديد ساعات العمل و الحق في الحد الادنى للاجور. فالعلاقة بين عاملات المنازل الاجنبيات وصاحب العمل محكومة بعقد عمل يجعل من صاحب العمل الكفيل والمسؤول القانوني عن العاملة خلال فترة إقامتها في لبنان وينتج عن ذلك في الكثير من الاحيان حرمان العاملات من الحقوق الاساسية للانسان.

إن المقابلات التسع المحمّلة على الموقع ليست مبنية على نص أعد مسبقا، بل هي اراء حقيقية لتسعة لبنانيين كانت لديهم الشجاعة الكافية للتعبير عن ما هو "غلط" في وضع عاملات المنازل الاجنبيات في لبنان. تُصر حملة في شي غلط على أن نظام اكثر عدالة فيما يتعلق بعاملات المنازل الاجنبيات هو قابل للتحقيق. إنضموا الينا في نضالنا لضمان الحريّة والعدالة لعاملات وأصحاب العمل العمل على حدًّ سواء.
